thanx for the info....what mufflers did you use?
it was all custom built , I have changed my car to RHD so the manifold goes either side of the column

I'm sure the FIA banned exhausts exiting from the the side of the car, I have a feeling that they give a little more power when set up like this but I need to check what I'm saying! The Ford Sierra Cosworth rally cars of the same period had the same set up, you would often see flames spitting out of the side of the car.
Alan
And there is no X conected pipes. But it's shorter than original... mayby few extra bhp's
it doesnt need the x pipe , it has longer and equal primaries than others available , this system has been designed and built by an Ex F1 exhaust maker. he really does know his stuff.
But pipes did not coextensive (x there fit's nice).
sorry , I dont understand what you mean
What sort of wheels are those? Still available?Originally posted by Dtm1992#43
why is the exhaust on this one under the right sideskirt?

i think theyre speedlines.
Compomotive have a set that look very much like that. 32lbs for one in 17in though... ouch!
Cheers,

I don't know Ian. I still think it would benifit from a cross over. But I'm no engineer. I do know its very rare to see no cross over. Even more rare to see people defend the no-cross over design. :DOriginally posted by Ian Godney

I have been told by this F1 guy , that the cross over was fitted to compensate for the short primaries , he said if the primaries are the correct lengths it is not needed , no other rally car I have had has had one fitted , so I can see where he's coming from , he couldn't believe that BMW made the manifold the way they did on such a car ....
Very interesting Ian. I don't mean any disrespect, but I don't believe him. Ex F1 guy or not.
Is your header a mathmatical solution or was it designed on a dyno?
Cheers,
Jake

Jake , here is a pic I got off this site that shows that with the correct length primaries you dont need the X pipe , this is a works engine I believe
The guy who made mine knows what lengths they are supposed to be to be in the ball park , with mine , as its RHD the column take up too much space for the manifold to be perfect , so its the next best thing
No offense Ian, but that 4 into 1 header has nothing in common with yours. The X pipe connects all 4 cylinders together, as does this 4 into 1 junction. Yours keeps the two divided. That's why I feel the design this F1 guy came up with is a little strange. Especially when he says connecting the cylinders is not needed even though BMW Motorsport probably found it beneficial on both their single and dual exhaust systems. I say probably because 1.) I don't talk to BMW Motorsport and I don't want to presume I know for a fact, and 2.) Their designs connected all 4 cylinders in some way or another.
Cheers,
Jake
