    Quick question:
Is there such thing as an aluminum block S50/52/54?????
Because I heard that the block from the M-roadster was aluminum...

no, s54 was sucking my exhaust fumes at the Pocono, it has no legs to run with my s50b32 :D

So.... were do you get your engines/transmissions. If I don't end up doing an engine swap I wnat some help locating a genuine BMW dogleg 5-speed that the american version sadly didn't come with. Its like owning an NSX without the type-r gearing....

Quick question, what happens to the steering of the car with the heavier engine in it? Is it changed radically?

Most of the time the difference is very subtle and hardly noticeable, if at all. Also the trend is to change the steering rack to a faster one and that pretty much negates any difference if there was any in the first place.

Stock for Stock yes the S54 is more powerful....plus it has more rev range to work with.

Depends on what Vlad's car is making. As Kev said....

I am really interested in this thread.

Reason being, I would like to know how Alex L gets 370-380 BHP out of the Euro s30b52 Engine, if the modifications are those as done on Vlad's car.

It is known fact that the Euro S30B52 Evo engine struggled to make much more that 310 BHP, in fact many made less, some only just over 300 BHP.

The S54 M3 engine is known and proven to make 343 BHP out of he box, all day every day, with the USA version making 333 BHP, due to the 'emissions' and the different exhaust manifold.

So assuming that Vlad's car has very High Lift cams, nice reported flowing head, which is worth circa 20 -25 BHP on a very good day, and that with the MAF deleted and a Carbon AirBox fitted another 10 -15 BHP has been squeezed, then even with a Race Spec remap, 361 BHP is really pushing it to the limit, on these specs assuming that it made 321 BHP out of the box, which I very much doubt.

I am in no way trying to write down Vald's car, I am just very interested on how to get a S52 Evo engine to crank out a geniune 370-380 BHP, simple as that.

As a tail note the S54 CSL Engine with the Vanos Locked down, remapped, larger injectors, etc makes on a good day 380 BHP, which given the top end improvements, better exhaust valves etc, makes getting 370-380 BHP out of a S52 Evo no mean feat, and virtually impossible on the standard injectors and coil packs.

Maybe Alex L who visits the site from time to time will chip in at some stage.

    Regards,

    The Gorilla.

    ^^i aggree with Gorilla here...

an s54 with cams/port work/lightened everything/airbox/aftermarket ecu/professional remap etc. should in theory make a ton more power than the s50 variants.

Also - it would make sense that this motor would "demolish" the s54's that it was run against. Chances are these motors were in e46 m3's which are MUCH heavier than vlads car (even with the cage) and most like the motors were running very close to stock spec. My AFM equiped 2.5 was easily passing e36 m3's at the track and could hold the e46 on the straights... so smoking an e46 with "380" hp is no major accomplishment... it could be easily done with 300 or 290 bhp...

    Vlad,

Its time to post that dyno graph and shed some light on the situation.

S50B32īs go 350hp easy in the UK with a proper dyno tuning and air filter,
I canīt see how 360-370hp is so far off,

I don't even know when I am going to a dyno yet, next week the car goes into the shop to put that digital cluster and rear Brembos plus few other goodies, then we are off to 2 track days at Watkins Glen... I'll proly have to ask Alex to supply the dyno sheet since he is running the same engine ...

S54s sucked my exhaust fumes all day long at the track, they could not even pull into my slip stream, not even close.

I will upload the video of the 600HP supercharged Porsche C4S racing me at Pocono, you will be surprised to see the outcome

    Hi Gunni,

Not sure where you got your information on a 'filtre and remap' making an S52 Evo make 350 BHP 'easy', but there are a lot of Guys in the UK who race with these engines, who would be very happy if you would share your technical information with them.
