I was out do a bit more mapping on the car trying to get the AFR's where I want them, and I feel the car start to miss slighty. Pulled over and the car seem to rev up fine, Pulled away again amd under load I could feel that it was still missing.
Thinking the worsed and hopeing for the best I drove the car home to try and fined the problem. I pulled the plugs, but th looked fine and I changed them with another set. Checked the wires and the cap and rotor and it all looked fine. Took it for a drive and the problem was cured.

I took a closer look at the plugs and on one the electrode was bent over to one side slightly, but the problem one was this. If you hold the metal part with the hex on it, you can twist the ceramic part! I guess something broke inside, or maybe it got too hot. But it could have made a big mess if it had fallen into the cylinder. It doesn't bare thinging about.

Is this a common fault or just ont of those things. But I do feel it was a lucky escape.!

I think AlpineRunner was just talking about this to me the other day. I guess that this is VERY common!?!?!?

Which plugs were they? I had a similar problem with a Bosch X5DC recently. The car started running rough, I pulled the plugs and found one cylinerd looking really rich.

Turns out the electrode had broken down inside the plug. You could see a slight bit of movement if you wiggled it. The break was just enough to cause a very weak spark but not kill the plug entirely.

Yes, Mick was the one who told me about it. Very strange and dangerous. Didn't you say Mario had seen it more often recently?

I had this happen to me a number of times in the last couple of years, all with Bosch XR2CS plugs. Not sure if there is a production quality issue with Bosch. I am switching back to NGKs.

Interesting subject. Sorry if it's a little of topic, but has anybody heard of BERU ultra 12-5DU. That is what I was given last time. Also of hand does anybody know the NGK number used.

Again, sorry for highjacking your thread, and Thanks.

OPPS.....I just lucked out on a search. I found a link for a listing of different plugs for the S14. But I would still like to know any info about the BERU plugs since I don't see them listed.

    Thanks.
