petro,
You have to polish by hand with sandpaper or use a polishing bit/cones on an air grinder. Not too hard of a job either when the case halves are apart. I took mine apart and painted it lachsilber for ha-ha's.

IrishM3- Peak power remained the same, but I picked up about 10whp and 5lb/ft in the mid range (my engine is stock 2.3L)
petro- as Mflossin stated, it's polished. I didn't separate the alternator housing, just used a small sander to smooth it out and then hand polished it.

very nice.. i'll be looking to do this when i get my m3.
It may be insignificant on something like an alternator, but polishing a metal surface reduces the surfaces ability to dissipate heat. On the other hand, sanding the alternator would help to increase the ability to dissipate heat, by exposing more surface area from rough surfaces, rather than a smooth surface with less surface area. Food for thought.
Looks good though.

Cris - This is an awesome write-up!!! Thanks for all the work you put into documenting your work. Your car looked amazing at the e30 picnic this past weekend. My favorite part of your setup is the AF gauge in the vent. That is trick!

///MFlossin doesn't care for that phrase?
Thanks Young, good seeing you again!

Where did you buy that mount for the throttle wire?? the one with the ///M logo
Thanks. Do you know how to reach him, a e-mail adress or something?
LeeVuong also makes that bracket I believe...
