LOL i think of that all the time... i have had only one encounter with one E46 owner that really knew what i was driving, as i he passed me by he gave me the thumbs up. My girlfriend and i were surprised any other E46 driver will most likely pass you with nose up high all snobby.
the first time i went to my local dealer to order parts the parts man asked twice if it was a real M3 he taught i was one of those misunderstood peoples. i had to answer yeah its got wide body it outside see. he was surprised, WOW.
I also remember when i first bought mine the newspaper was plain and simple, first thing i asked was "Its a real one, wide body?" the asking price was to good to believe.
i had an e46 m3 roll right up to me, roll down his window, and yell "i love your car man!" and gave me the thumbs up. i was so shocked i was speachless! e46 m3's here are more common than toyota corolla's and they are all driven by posers, so i was really floored by that guy.

My car isnt even out of workshop yet. (6DAYS UNTIL IT HITS THE ROAD)
I've ready have experience's. When respraying (stock colour, not pink or nothing hehe) the spray-painters didn't know that the e30 m3 had a different windscreen. (our spraypainter does a lot of work on old italian car's, he's a real close family freind, and one of the few people in australia who knows about the e30 m3 and isnt a bmw enthusiest). Anyways, he broke the windscreen. That's fine...so i asked him to order a new 1 etc. He tells me he can't find them. So, i spoke to "OZM3" on the forums, he told me to go to the bmw dealership and order from there.
So i did so, but as everyone has had their experience's at bmw, i had the same..."ahh what car sir" so, me and my brother left from argueing to someone about our own car. I spoke to "OZM3" once again that night, and he gave me the part number of windscreen, we went said..."just order this" end of story.
Then from spray painters car was transfered back to workshop for finishing touches on Steering conversion. when it just arrives, some young (teenager) guy turns up, droping his very very mint e30 325is. I said to him, beautiful car mate! its in such good condition =), he was like thanks man, is this yours? (pointing at my M) and im like yeah...he goes "woah thats a sick respray what colour is that?" ...its mocao blue man, m3 colour. he's like "oh yeah thats cool man...thats an oright body kit, i would have chosen better"....INSTANTLY, i knew he didn't have a clue, and i wasnt up for explaining. but out of no-where comes our awesome workshop owners come out...and decides to explain ....
"its not a bodykit man, thats a e30 m3 evoII"
the guy was like ? "huh, what? m3...are you sure"
owners says "sure as it gets"
the guy didnt want to fight a guy, who has dedicated his life to bmw's so says "oh serious! no way...i've never seen one of those" (but we all knew, he had no clue...didnt even knew the existed)
so he droped his car off and left, ...we all had a laugh, but it goes to show!!..he was driving a mint 325is...i was expecting to much?

I read the quote in your sig and i used to live in South Africa. There are quite a few e30 m3s running around. In fact my uncle used to have an e30 m3 with a 2.5l motorOriginally posted by SA E30 driver
Well I have never seen an E30 M3 in life, i've just seen them in pictures and I will never mistake it for a normal E30, even if it does have a widebody kit on it, or maybe ill be confused if I see a damn 316i with M badges, cause u know once they put those badges on the car looks identical......HAHAHAHAHA
Hi,
I haven't had this kind of conversations but the M3 was at the garage a few weeks ago, and 2 people walked in to the garage when I was there, and the first one was looking, and looking to the car, and the bonnet (or how you call it, where the engine is)
was open and untill he saw the engine he didn't say anything but when he saw the engine he said; It's a real one! he asked me or it was mine and I said yes, it's mine! we talked a little bit about the car and he said: don't ever, ever ,ever sell it anymore!!!! Man I like this guy! and the second guy was looking to the car too and we talked about it again and he asked me some things about the car but I think the weirdest is this was at normal garage with toyota's and volvo's and mazda's the first guy drove a peugeot 206 and the second a volvo S80 a limousine and both the liked the car!! and these guys were the only guys who walked in to the garage for half an hour or so!
greetzz Joep
Someone walked up to me today and asked me, "Where's you get the ground effects kit from?, Because I got a white one of these with a blue top...and I want to hook mine up like this."
... I had another guy in a stock E46 M3 drive beside me the other day, and yell out the window, "I would trade my car for one of those any-day! I've been wanting one for years" with a big thumbs up. It's not everyday an E46 M3 owner gives a thumbs up around here. :D
Same thing happened to me at SJSU. I told him it was an erebuni kit. hahhaha :DOriginally posted by Darkstar M3

full stop at red and a guy next to me roll down his window and said "nice car! what year is it? you 're selling it? I'll buy it now!!(putting his hand to his pocket gesture)".
another guy said on the gas station " I like this M1, classic!!!!!!!!!" V six cylinder huh!!
Driving down route 109 eastbound today. See a white E30 headed westbound. I recognize the ///M front bumper - even an ///M3 front grille badge. As it passes by I see that it is merely a non ///M with misleading badging. I make a U-turn - because I have to anyway - and catch up. This thing was clean and blinged-out. I pull up next to him and proceed at the same speed. He guns it - sounds kinda good! I downshift to second, pin it, and blow by him @ about 70 MPH. I don't know if he ever saw a real E30 M3 before, but was trying very hard to make his look the part. Anyway, he pulls along side me at the next light and asks, "Want to sell it?"
I reply, "HELL, NO!"
I leave him wanting more, but not getting any, as I make him disappear in my rearview. :-)
How horrible about that Escort with the BMW "look" even the peeps over in my place were like WTF!! LOL.
I find that since we (even though I don't have the E30 M3) have rare cars that most people who aren't into motorsports or Euro motorsport racing wont know what it is. Even the guys who say they know about the cars sometimes don't know shite! I've only been asked twice if this is a cossie.
I am getting out from my car after driving up to my friends house, and his neighbor comes running from out of her garage across the street and stops at the sidewalk. She starts looking up and down the street, and finally is staring at me and the car.
She turns around disappointed and yells into her house, "I thought I heard the tow-truck driving up. I mean this car across the street sounded just like one..."
I love it.. :D

8. At the track a guy in a new Z06, come over after I dam near lapped him ( I was a much better driver) starts telling me about how all the Mags say his car should be faster then the New M3, I tell him it's 11yo and is only a 4-banger.![]()
Dont have an m3 yet but I have heard my share of "M" stories. People constantly ask if my car is real.
Had a guy the other day ask if it had a v8. Told him I6 and he instantly looked away as if I was an imposter.
Guy I worked with had a 633 and claimed it had an m engine in it. Popped the hood and no s38 to be found.
People always comment on how cool my car is with its M trim and M this and that. I swear all the car is is a letter to them.

Some random guy walks up to my car as I just sit in it in a parking lot and starts yelling at me with my window rolled up, "You know, they say the aerofoil on your trunk is only functional over 130 mph" as he pointed to the rear spoiler.
I say, "it's stock"
"but do you ever go over 100mph??"
"Not on public roads, that would be illegal"
"You can go over 100mph in this?"![]()
"uh.. yeah"
I am new to the site , and have been busy scouring around. This thread is so funny.
There is one thread to the daft comments made - all the comments have been made by GWB's people. Give them time.
I'd better run for cover, I suppose.:D
yeah many people are annoying its hard going anywhere without getting asked if it is for sale and i say its not but people still want to see the engine and start making remarks and stuff..
i get a lot of idiots as well... couple weeks ago a guy comes up to me asking if its a real m3...i say yeah... so then he is asking me what the hell happened to the rearend of the car .... and says "thats all wrong man... thats not the rearend of an e30! wtf went wrong at the shop who did it?"
i didnt really understand what he meant at first about the rearend not looking good .. i thought he was referring to the red stickers on the bumpers but then i realized he was talking about the trunklid of the m3 thinking it got rearended and i had it fixed and it was fixed wrong.. :D
and i get lots and lots and lots of people that think its a bodykit ..
