It seems like the front tow hook is over extended that if I was to install the cover, that I would not be able to due not being flush. No, front has never been to an accident. I tried to have the bumper re-adjusted to be flush and yet to no avail. What gives? Thanks.

I have the same problem with my 88. I have a set of euro covers and can only get one on. I'm told it can be pushed back but it does not look like an easy task.

Mine is the same way. Was thinking to cut it off and install one like the grand master Vlad has installed.

I once found that the metal reinforcement washers behind the bumper core had fallen off while I had the bumper in storage. They are just rivited on. If this happens the bumper will sit about 1/4" further back. Maybe worth a look.

When I had the bumper removed on Jacie's body shop to readjust to be flushed, the tow hook cannot be moved or pushed back. It is welded to main frame. We even tried to hammer it but decided to quit after a few blows fearing it would bend the frame or whatever damage it would cause. So, we reinstalled as flush and straight as we can...no luck, still the same.

Jake....would you be able to locate the reinforcement washers in the RealOEM? Or, are those part of the bumper core???

Maybe some heat and a dead blow hammer might be able to spread the ring apart rather than knocking it back.

This does sound like a good idea to suggest, but I think we need to remind our friends here that heating and cooling metals hardens them. I can see this happening quite easily since some of us might already be feeling cold and more importantly windy weather. So probably the best approach to this potential method would be to heat the entire ring slowly and evenly and to do so in a warm garage or anywhere that would allow the ring to cool down as slowly as possible to prevent hardening. And personally I would exercise great caution if the desire to manipulate the ring arises after it has cooled down.

I just had a look and it appears to be part of the bumper reinforcement.

If we were able to find the problem what causes this tow hook to protrude out then we can fix the cause, right? Why do some M3 fits flush and some do not without modifications? I might be anal about this, but heating and beating the tow hook, or grinding it would destroy the tow hook's integrity? Heck, if that happens, might as well cut off/remove the tow hook?

Maybe past "towing jobs" have caused the tow hooks to elongate a little?

Very possible, especially not knowing any past tow jobs by POs. But still a hook should not be elongating. Wondering if the hook is bolted in to the frame somewhere in which like a tongue that slides that we could not see vice being welded? Need further study.

There's no moving the tow hook, it's welded to the frame, mine was elongated, now it's gone. I figure I can pull it from the rear hook if needed. There's a shipping eye on the left side frame rail too, you'd need to take off the bumper cover to pull the car with it though.
