Does anyone recognize this sensor on my oil filter housing? When my motor went back together last year, we were stumped when it came to reattaching the 2-wires to the Stack dash for the oil temp. The sensor only has one (1) male terminal, while I have two wires (red and black) with female connectors going back to the Stack. Needless to say I have no oil temp readout on the Stack dash. Any ideas?

    Ed,

I believe that is the stock oil temp or low oil pressure sender. My Stack has a hose line connecting to a standard two wire pressure sender from the oil filter housing.

I have the invoices to my Stack & it should have the p.n. of the oil pressure sender. I can look for you.

This is Dr. Lairds car correct? If so, when the engine was removed the pressure sender (if it was like mine) could be laying in a box somewhere (mine was).

    I'll send you a PM.

    Thanks,
    Mike K.

thanks Mike, I replied. right, this was Tad's car.

The pressure sensor is hooked up and reading fine on the Stack.

    Ed,

I've just checked mine. That exact location is used to send pressure readings via a remote pressure sender on my setup. My temp comes from the other sender location above the sender in your picture, but still on the oil filter housing. IT IS A TWO WIRE SENDING UNIT, not a BMW sender.

Are you sure you have the correct oil filter housing? I thought your car had a remote oil filter setup? I could be wrong.

I'm going back out to the garage, give me a call if you'd like.

    Thanks,
    Mike K.

thanks Mike, that is helpful. I need to pull the plenum and take a fresh look at this. I may not get to it tonight, I'm still at work.

Right, my pressure sensor is located above that location on the housing, and it's wired/plumbed for both the Stack and a separate analogue gauge for oil pressure -- both are working fine.

    Ed,

    Take a look at:

Is that the temp sender on the left side of the oil pan?

Sent you a PM. That sensor goes to an analogue oil temp gauge on the dash, not to the Stack. I swapped that factory pan out for the VAC mega sump pan. We didn't try tapping the new pan for that sensor, so it's tied off at the moment and not being used.

What I've figured out/remembered is -- my old factory oil pan had TWO temp sensors, not one. And Stack does not make an oil temp sensor in size M12 x 1.5, which is the size of the stock, single-terminal sensor on the oil filter housing. So my options are: tap the filter housing to accept a size M14 x. 1.5 sensor, or tap the VAC pan for the sensor(s). Kinda typical, nothing is easy.

    Ed,

I've sold my VAC pans, but from what I remember the only way to tap the pan would be to have someone weld a bung on the pan. If you just drill & tap I don't think you'll have enough "meat" for the threads to hold & seal. You really don't want that this to come out while on the track... Why not just use the oil filter head? It has two locations, one temp & one pressure. Just remove the factory one in the pic & replace it with the Stack sender. I'd give you the Stack oil temp p.n., but I can't get at it without removing a bunch of stuff.

You're right about "tapping" the pan -- it's way too thin -- welding a bung was what I intended to convey. This was how my old factory pan had been done, and there was quite a bit of meat added. I have someone who is an excellent welder, but I'm still not sure I really want to go down this road with the VAC pan.

I have the Stack part nos., but it appears they only make the sensor in M10 and M14 metric sizes. The factory sensor is M12. So I'm thinking it'll require some shop time to make that work.
