I am just trying to clarify, the XR4 is a different plug than the XR4CS correct? Secondly... is this coil pack that you previously refered to a Bosch part? I would assume that getting that piece through an independent bosch dealer would be MUCH cheaper than going through my MB parts counter... I remember their prices being insanely expensive when i had my 190 amg. I plan on warming the car up and actually driving it, not just stop and go and never let it warm up. Thanks for the clarification.

No I run the XR4CS I was just shorting writing it all out.

The 500 sel coil is just a more powerfull BOSH coil, it will mount up in the same place. I'm going to try and see what one cost. I really wanted to go with a "E" core coil, as they have a fast rise time.

MSD makes a coil, that I might try with the Plasma Booster, or I might just see how it works on the stock coil.

    John,

Great write up. But, do I see you questioning yourself in the last sentence? ;-)

Always certain he is right, except when I'm wrong of course. Hmmm, that happens quite a lot when I come to think of it...

Adwo, a good engineer always questions himself
But, Im a shitty automotive engineer because Im not one
(im in electronics/waves and that kind of stuff).

I completely forgot to post link to brisk, here is one:

    link is here

sorry its in German. But what they are claiming to have done
is combine electrode plug with surface gap plug to get
both an air-spark to the electrode and a floating spark.

    Could be all BS.

    I LIKE THIS CHART

ITS NOT TOO EXAGGERATED LIKE MOST COMPANIES...

THE LGS PLUG LOOKS PRETTY GOOD...I LIKE THE IDEA...BUT SOMEHOW I THINK IT NEEDS TO BE GETTING A LITTLE MORE BOOST THAN THE STOCK COIL...

THEN AGAIN...THEY DONT GIVE ANY INFO ON IT...WHICH IS WHAT I HATE...WHO KNOWS HOW THE TESTS WERE RUN AND WHAT NOT...

    Adam, why are you yelling?

Well, look at it this way, this is JUST the plug, it's like our engines, will a airfilter change things much if everything else is stock? NOPE< you need to upgrade the whole system.

Same here, so everything else being stock, getting more spark out of just changing the plug, is a LOT, not put this up with a high out put coil, quality wires, and you got something there!

Now how much do they cost? They are cheaper then the Champion A55V plugs.

I think the lack of info is normal....the guys writing the
    info are not the engineers.

As of now, I wont install something like the Brisk.
If you guys with highly tuned motors want to do the
initial field tests for me then I maybe Ill try it

I have to worry about detonation and too hot plugs,
especially when run hard, which is the reason I built the
engine....to run it at prolonged high rpm at full throttle.
So, I just install those expensive A55V (20 euro a piece!
and I have spare sets because that is what the DTM and
so many gr. A cars successfully ran with for years now without
problems. The other alternative is a plug Jimmy told me about,
Ive been meaning to look into, its like the A55V but with a
resistor and only costs a mere $5 a piece. I need to ask
Jimmy to run them in is gr. A car first to make sure they are
    safe for me

John, which plug are you referring to? What is the downside to having a resister? Also, I have had a hard time finding even the A55V, do you know of places to find these plugs?

I dont think you are being too conservative being weary of a plug like the Brisk. I personally dont like the idea of such a radical plug design being used on a highly tuned motor. In fact, I would be weary of ANY plug that hasnt been tested and proven to work. The Champion A55V have been tested repeatedly in Motorsport E30 M3's in real race conditions.

On the other hand, I dont see any problems with having a coil that has a stronger initial spark and multiple secondary sparks to ensure a more complete burn of the mixture. You are not risking destruction by a plug that might be too hot or not function properly with a high CR motor. You're using your same proven plugs, just increasing the spark energy and firing again w/ the secondary pulses. Ensuring a more complete burn of the mixture can only be a good thing..

The one thing that concerns me is using systems like the Ignition Solutions Coils & Booster box on a batch fire ignition system. I'm not sure if there is enough time between sparks if you have a motor that is going to be reving to almost 9k rpm. On a batch fire ignition, wouldnt this in effect be like 18k rpm? Ignitions Solutions claims that their coils work up to even "the highest rpm", but I think most of their systems (especially the coil-over-plug coils) are intended for more modern cars with sequential ignition. Any ideas?

Batch or sequential fire has to do with the injectors, not ignition.

    Hey Buddy.
    I have done it.
My Touring car came with zero new A55s plugs.
Just a box full of old ones.
The only plugs I have ever run in it were the "Qs".
No problems to report, ran fine, plugs read great.

My car is set up with an old, fairly archane, British Zytek engine mgt system. Its quite basic and all plugs still read well.
It will actually even start on them,,, but takes forever before I can move it or rev it.
Moving can come much faster with the startup plugs.
Once the engine has heat in it once, I am fine with the race plugs the rest of the day.

Champion engineer told me they (Qs) were a pretty direct replacement and "should" have no ill side effects.
The only reason they did the resistors was to reduce RF interference in DMEs on Ducati race bikes (which is the primary use for this plug today).

    Cheers

OK...i see where the issue is....I know theres more that goes on with TeamZ4 and everyone beyond just this thread...especially with Mike...

I dont like the attitude either...but im not one to complain as many view me as a asshole(check my sig)...but i try and keep it all in fun with everyone here on S14...i hate on everyone and its all a joke to me...i love all my S14 brothers(except ///Mballer-you cant choose your family)...

I agree with MadMike...but maybe in different words...maybe this should be in off-topic now

So what plug is this? A55Q?

Your are right about the resistor, just to help quench noise.

Jimmy, can you post some pic of the car? You know we all want it!

jimmy p., thanks for the info. Can you share where you were able to get your A55Q plugs? I've looked but cant find them anywhere. Might it be easier to find them through a Ducati dealer?

TeamZ4, who doesnt appear to have any knowledge on this car (does he even own and M3?), please keep pointless cut down comments like this to yourself, thank you. My custom Coil-on-plug setup eliminates the distributor and is fed by two channels (one for 1&4, another for 2&3). There are two ingitors instead of one for each coil. This apparent "batch" nature running 2 coils off of 1 igniter box is the reason for my concern. If you have something intelligent to say in reply I'd love to hear. Or you can just "turn away shaking your head" b/c you already know everything
