  1. #1 Sourcing Ø120mm air duct for airbox
After measuring the circumference of the airbox's inlet, I calculated its diameter at 120mm, or 4.75". Imade a short research and realized that 120mm flexible ducts are easy to source from the old continent. But try to find some in the land of greasy triple-decker hamburgers and large size Pepsi gulpers... I might be more lucky in Montreal, thanks to its "European" heritage, but I don't put too much hope on it.

Has anyone been more lucky in sourcing some proper 120mm flexible hose in North America? The plan B would be to fit a strip of foam around the inlet and fit 5" ducts, but it's not very elegant...

    Lee,
I gave up on finding the 4.75" ID tube as well. To make the 5" work, I built up the snorkel with JB Weld and filled it smooth and round until it was 5.0" o.d. Then I turned up an aluminum ring, 5.00 o.d. with an i.d. to fit the air box and JB Welded it in place. Now the silicone rubber hose from Air Craft Spruce fits perfectly. Incidently, it is all hooked up to one of your filter panels, and works like a charm.

I was able to source mine from a aeronautical salvage yard. I did buy it in bulk, so if anybody really needs it they can contact me. Erik

Hello Lee I will shoot you some pics. Free to you, they are black in colour, and have a wire support. I installed mine using self-vulcanizing tape for a secure fit. I will cut to spec, so let me know how much u need after seeing pics.

Thanks very much. It is appreciated.
I will still try to locate some (for the long term) thru some European connection.

    Lee,
I still have several of the silicon hoses that I had made left. They are the exact size to fit the box/snorkel connection. 2 ply so there is enough flex. I can shoot you one if you would like. They look nicer than the wire reinforced hose.
    Cheers,
    John

    Hi John

I am having Erik send me two lengths. But I am still curious about the ones you have, and also about what people are doing in the US. My usual supplier only has Imperial size. You say you have them done from silicone? Is that flexible enough?

Plenty of flex. I have put several thousand miles on the car with this setup and no issues. I had them custom made for the airbox application.
    Cheers,
    John

I've got one of the silicon hoses supplied by John that I have had no issues with. The monster K&N cone filter is a perfect fit as well.

The only issue with the silicone hose is alignment. If the snorkel is not perfectly in line with the air box when it is mounted to the car body, then the thick hose, supplied by John, is too stiff to securely attach to both ends at once. It is very pretty, though.

Do you have to remove the airbox to remove the hose, or is there enough flex to compress it and pull it out?

Walter's comment I think answers my initial concern about stiffness. The engine moves side to side, and aft front to back. If the hose is too stiff, it is going to put stress on the snorkel and airbox airbox. But hey, I don't know yet how stiff it is.

Up to now, a wire reinforced duct and silicone one still remain the only ways to do.

I do have to take the airbox off to get the hose out. The biggest complaint I have with it, is that I have learned to have a ready supply of throttle body o-rings on hand.
