I am going to say- 1) not enough heat capacity in the radiator, and 2) the thermostat oring (the one between the chambers of the thermostat housing not the one between it and the water pump) that broke off the other housing was limiting water flow by maybe 25%? Be interesting to see how it rubs in low ambient temps (40s-50s) and high ambients. I might need to change thermostats depending on ambient. We will see how it runs in anger at Barber in the 70s/80s.

Nothing good to report from Ofest....spent more time under the car that driving it. Tranny blewup, then I didn't replace the clutch at the same time (stupid me), then the ECU decieded it was going to fail. Epic fail all the way around. I think only 1 racer has a worse weekend than me.

Wow. You certainly are not having a whole lot of luck with this build. Hope you can sort things out over the winter...

Are you thinking of Vivek when he rolled? That was certainly worse. You'll sort it out.

I was thinking Bruce was referring to Dan Wheldon as that was the day he lost his life.

Actually I meant at Barber, so I did mean Vivek.

Ecu being covered under warranty. E46 ABS going in (hence the E36 ABS for sale ad). Hopefully racing in 3 weeks.

So not tuned yet....but...how does 330 sound. There's more there with the tune not being quite there yet. I'd say another 10 is there easy. Cams seem to help...167 hp at 4800, 267 at 5900. Curve still flat at 8100.

    Off season additions:
    1. Z3 1.9 PS with Mercedes A class electric power steering from ABLoriginalparts.com. Just finishing up the mounting of the pump- will go on the frame rail between the radiator and the motor. Moving the motor back gave enough for it to fit there.
    2. E46 M3 ABS integrated with the Pectel. Got all the mounting figured out. Need to run one line from the pump to the other rear brake (presently plumbed 3 channel, need 4 channel). This is the mod I am most stoked about. Hopefully this will help me grow some appendages in the brake zone- too afraid of flatspotting tires- I think this is the place I give away seconds per lap.
    3. enlarge intake to 5 inches. Shouldn't be too hard but I have to figure out how to get the intake tube/plenum elbow interface to work right. I was told some people have seen 20hp at the wheels going from a 3.5 to 5 inch intake. Dunno. We will see.

Thinking about running BMW at Road Atlanta in Feb, NASA at MSR in March, BMW at VIR in April, and BMW at MSR in April.

    Very nice Dyno chart Bruce..

I can see the upgraded cams start picking up from around 5k rpm's to 8k rpm's were is the most efficient power band.

Lets keep the engine healthy and put more track time.

    Last updates for the year...

Road Atlanta race cancelled in February...looking at Sebring in late March and VIR 2 weeks later (returning to the scene of the crime...)

PS pump in place. Thinking of removing the Peterson oil filter and putting in a Canton. I don't like where the Peterson is sitting and I see no other good way to mount a cylinder.

New 5" intake. Needing a silicone elbow into the plenum. And no, the intake tube is not going to sit there. :-)

    Getting closer to done...

5" intake...should get more air to the motor. Hopefully it gets some more power.

Front of the engine compartment. You can see the new intake, the new electric PS pump above the intake and behind the radiator. And the new Canton oil filter housing on the passenger wheel well.

E46 M3 CSL ABS pump mounted in passenger floorboard. Still have some lines hook up and install the ABS wiring harness.

Need to finish up the ABS install and redo the inside wiring of the car (again *sigh*).
