I am curious of the varying degree of responses based on this question :

What RPM does YOUR S-14 pull to just before YOU FEEL its time to shift ?

Please list the RPM number and whether or not you have a stock or a built motor.

If you think there was a particular modification on a stock motor that greatly enhanced or changed the previous performance please specify.

    Thanks for your input.

anything over 7200 is a waste. However, I've been known to bounce off the rev limiter chasing down certain cars with pumpkin colored rims.

    Motor has been rebuilt twice.

I have a JC chip which has a 7800 RPM redline. I don't remember ever hitting the cut-off as I shift religiously right below this limit. I think that 7000 RPM is where I usually shift, but often go well beyond.

    Hahahaha spool it up!

Mine pulls strong to 8500 - rev limiter steps in, S52 though.

If I'm tooling around town, I'll run it out to 4500 or so (assuming its warm), freeway on-ramp with a clean run at it, 7K. Autocrossing I wish it had another 500 rpm. My car is stock, stock cams, stock chip.

Modified 2.5L with iigo chip. Power is still climbing all the way to 8200rpm till the rev limiter kicks in. Helps me chase down e92 m3s at the track.

Kind of an aside: What cams are you running in that 2.5L?

Schrick 292/284. The cams aren't much more aggressive than a 284/276 combo. The ability to rev and deliver power to 8200rpm is more related to greater flow (ditching the AFM) and DTM Header w/3" exhaust. The e92 m3s still pull away on the straights though.

Great thanks Pat, I've been emailing back and forth with Luis about a chip for my rebuild and it is good to know that he's done something similar before. I'll be running a Maxx Alpha-N so I just need the ignition timing suitable for 292/284 and hope I can get the tune good enough with just the fuel map on the Maxx.

No problem Chris. I'm running a Split-sec, but had Luis burn me a Alpha-N chip (since I can control fuel), with timing dialed back in the lower-mid rpms (due to me pinging on 91 octane). I am running 50mm TBs, with a stage 3 type head work. Luis is the man! you're in good hands.

I used to go to 8000, maybe a little more. This year I'm setting a fuel/spark cut at 7800 and planning to shift by 7600 - Better for longevity and you don't lose much, if anything.
