    James,

Thanks for the reference for shipping.

Just to complete the description, can you answer the following questions:

    - It looks like the upper driver’s side has been re-stitched. Is this correct?
    - The lower driver’s side securing bracket appears to be broken. Can you confirm?
    - There appears to be a hole/repair on the driver’s side bolster.

I was looking to keep the entire transaction below ~$550. Beyond that, I will probably pursue other options. Please let me know if there is any room for negotiation. (During the day, I can be reached at tathens at hotmail.com.)

    Regards,

    Tom

    Tom,

I am going to assume you're talking about the back seat vs. the Cardinal Front seats to answer your questions....

    1. The upper driver's side has not been re-stitched. The seams are spilting. This happens when the leather dries and contracts.
    2. The securing brackets are intact. They are bent inwards to prevent it from catching on anything.
    3. I don't believe there's a hole on the driver's bolster. I will go and double check and post a close up of what I believe is a dark spot on the seat.

For those that have PM'd me, the seat is located in NJ. I will ship the seat. The packing & shipping costs are the responsibility of the buyer. Here's a quote from the sale of another black seat on the dimensions and weight for your reference. The origination point for shipping will be 07648.

With regards to the price, it's slightly negotiable. But that is why my preference is for a local sale. shipping seems to make this a cost prohibitive purchase. You can feel free to make me an offer.

    James,

I'd PM you this question but my mailbox is so full it'll take me awhile to go thru it..LOL! Plus, others may have the same questions about the rear seat: Is the leather on the black rear pieces "salvagable" (cleaning up and re-stitching, etc) or would the seat basically need to be recovered to be in excellent condition? And, what is the condition of the top of the back piece?....supple or hard/stiff from sun exposure?

    John,

That's a good question. I really don't have experience with salvaging a back seat. But I will tell you what I've heard and read.

From what I understand, using leatherique the seat leather such as on this seat could possibly be salvaged. I believe it's an involved process best handled by a leather person. The process would be to soak the leather from the back (leather must be off the seat) in the rejuvinating oil and then stretched back to the original measurement and sewed back together.

The seat could easily be recovered by a shop. At that point, you will incur the cost of the leather and labor.

The condition of this seat is hard/stiff from the sun exposure. The process most likely could be performed on this seat to save it, but I don't really know since I've never done it.

    1. Not restitched
    2. Not broken
    3. No hole

On my last 88 m3, I had that same stitching coming apart at the top. I had a guy redo the sit itching, looked great. So it is certainly fixable.
