Is the oil leak of concern?
Thanks,
Jim
just wondering, is the car sold?
Jim,
My mechanic, Terry Sayther, said the oil leak is very minimal and he not recommend opening an engine with such good compression unless its absolutely necessary. S14s seem to need a top end rebuild around 140K-150K from what I've seen, and with <80K miles on it I suspect it could wait a long time.
Anyways, if you search online here you'll find that many folks here have done head gasket replacements in order to fix a minor oil leak only to have the new head gasket seep a bit of oil too.
Anyways, the car has not been sold yet. I'm actually wavering a bit and may keep it, though. If so, we'll sell our E36 M3 instead. I do have a TON of new pictures I took just no place to host them, but I can email them. I plan on taking the car to the annual German Car Concours next month (MB, Porsche, BMW), too see if we can win another trophy. I got 4th last time because they made me park in the mud and then dinked me 4 points for having mud on my tires!
Thanks...

sell a car that you love so much.

i vote you dont sell it right now
i vote you wait for me to get back from iraq (almost a year :-/) and then i'll come buy it cash from you.
if you do, ill make sure you fire a shot or two off in the M1A2 abrams tank that is my daily driver.
Is this car still for sale?
Well, I guess the car is still for sale, in that if someone offered me what I'm asking for it I would give it serious thought and probably sell. But I also might just keep it. Its not going to depreciate. That is keeping me from actively marketing the car.
Incidentally, last Sunday we were at the Tri-Marque (BMW/Porsche/MB) German Car Concours in South Austin and won ANOTHER trophy with the car. It got many many compliments and quite a few "peoples choice" votes. There was a silver Porsche 356 that was worthy of the Porsche Museum so it beat out everyone for best in show. But we were thrilled to get another trophy considering all we really did is pull it out, wash it, vacuum it, and drive to the event! I feel bad for the guys who spent days cleaning their cars!
I did have a "For Sale" sign on the car at the Concours and got many serious inquiries. Nothing firm yet.
What precipitated all this indecision is a combination of some health issues (which are improving) as well as the fact that we have a new Lotus Elise on the way. It should be here Nov/Dec. Now, I would love to have both the Elise and the E30 M3, but I think thats sort of redundant given we already have 2 fast daily drivers. How many hard core weekend fun cars can you drive at once? I think the Elise would probably win out most of the time, and I don't want the E30 M3 to just sit in storage. So, even if I don't sell it right now I think eventually I'll want to find it a good home.
So what do you guys think, is there room for an Elise and an E30 M3? Keep in mind we already have a 911 and an Evo8 for daily drivers ;-) And the $12xxx proceeds from the sale of the E30 would also make buying the Elise a bit easier on the checkbook.

delliott00 - You've got mail. Please reply to me as soon as can. Thanks a lot.
Well, just to update you all, this car is officially for sale now. I really don't want to sell it but our Elise came in early so we've really been enjoying that a lot and I think it would be best for the E30 M3 to go to another good home.
Plus, I really would like to replenish some of the $$$ we took out of our retirement stock funds to pay for the Elise.
So, while I'm emotionally attached to the M3, I really have to sell it. No sense in deluding myself that I can keep two weekend enthusiast cars and drive them both enough to enjoy them.
Since I posted the original for sale info, I've fixed a few things. The car now has brand new foglights, some minor interior trim, trip computer backlight, etc. It also won a trophy at the German Car Tri-Marque Concours last month.
Email me at delliott00(at)excite(dot)com for pics. I'm not in a hurry, as I plan on putting it in the Roundel Classifieds next month. Given the prices/mileage/descriptions of E30 M3s in there recently, I expect it will sell in a matter of days once it gets out.
