hmm, could it have run out of gas...meaning was the gas guage right? If it had gas, it could be anything. If you actually ran out of gas, fouled plugs could be a possibility and an easy thing to check.

not exactly sure how to check them but I believe you can remove them and leave the wire attached and visually check for a spark. But new plugs also work and aren't that expensive. Next thing I"d check is the fuel filter. Maybe it sucked up something that was floating in the top of the gas. Again, the only way I know how to check it would be to replace. Good luck and I also responded to your PM before I wrote this

The main fuel pump and the fuel filter are located just in front of the left rear wheel.
When you turn the key to "ON", you should hear the pumps buzz for 1-2 sec then switch off.
have some one listen at the site of the main pump.
If you can hear neither pump, then you have either fried the main pump and or the fuel pump relay.
Also check the fuel pump/injection fuses #9,11, and 21.
It is also possible that you have pumped a bunch of air into the ijection and this will take a bit to purge.

I suspect fouled plugs, I hope you have the tool attachment to remove them. Pull them out, clean them and your car should start.

    Very common in the M3's.

Please dont let your car run out of gas...ITS NOT GOOD AT ALL.

I assume it kept stalling and you kept starting it and getting as much as you can out of the gas left.

NEXT TIME....do whatever you can ...even if it means walking your ass to a gas station...get a can of gas and bring it back to the car.

    Just a heads up.

I plugs might be shot...pump might have gone bad....maybe some air trapped in the lines now? dunno

Does the car crank over and just not catch?

now i have to pay cubic dollar just because i let my tank run soo low..

I WILL be paying 170 dollars for the pump

The fuel pumps use the fuel for cooling and lubrication.
run out of gas and the main pump gets hot and the rollers expand.
As they expand, the pump draws more current and will pop fuses and fry the fuel pump relay, if the pump does not seize first..

    end of story.
