What is this on the engine?

Just curious... I circled it in red. What is that? What happens if you loosen or tighten it? Mine is kind of loose.

Thanks for the help!

Hi,
You have identified the idle speed adjustment screw, buy turning in or out the idle speed is increased or decreased. The screw is not ment to be tight the friction between the housing and the oring on the screw holds it in position.
Dave.

Check the threads for idle adjustment.
There is more involved than simply messing with that valve.

idle

There is another adjustment up front that you have to loosen with phillips screw driver and adjust idle as well. You have to play with both to get your idle where you want it.

for a start, idle is controlled by the ECU and the idle value on the chip.
All the hardware on the engine is to allow to let the engine idle at the value set in the chip and to keep it there + / - a little

There is NO other screw to adjust idle. There is a CO Idle enrichment screw on the AFM (little round plastic cover with an allen screww deep down)

To adjust idle and CO you need to:
--disconnect O2 sensor
--disconnect trhottle switch and shorten all thre terminal in plug of harness
--attach Gas analyzer and set CO
--turn screw in picture till idle is withing specified range

thiis is not just a simple "turn it up and it idles quicker" screw. All you do is to allow enough air flow to the ICV (=idle control valve). Idle itself is then stabilised and controld by IVC and ECU.

So did I change anything by tinkering with just the screw while my engine was running? All I did was turn it from left to right a number of times to see what it did.
